Prep time: 15 minutes
Chill time: 30 minutes
Yield: 12–14 bite-sized balls
Ingredients
- Oats: 1 cup (90g,1cup) rolled oats or quick-cooking oats
- Nut Butter: ½ cup (125g) smooth peanut butter, almond butter, or macadamia nut butter
- Chia Seeds: 2 tablespoons
- Cocoa Powder: 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- Honey: 3 tablespoons honey (or maple syrup for a vegan option)
- Salt: A tiny pinch of fine salt (enhances the chocolate flavor)
- Liquid: 1-2 tablespoon cooled, strongly brewed Laager Rooibos tea. (Use 2 Tea4kidz Apple & Berry flavoured rooibos in a cup of boiling water)
Method
- Combine Dry: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the oats, chia seeds, cocoa powder, and a tiny pinch of salt until evenly mixed.
- Add Wet: Pour in the nut butter and drizzle the honey over the dry ingredients.
- Mix: Stir thoroughly with a stiff spatula or wooden spoon. The mixture should feel thick, sticky, and hold together when pressed. If it feels too crumbly, work in 1-2 tablespoons of brewed tea or warm water.
- Chill Batter: Place the entire bowl in the refrigerator for 10–15 minutes. This softens the oats and makes the mixture much easier to roll without sticking to your hands.
- Roll: Scoop out tablespoon-sized portions. Roll them firmly between your palms into tight, smooth, bite-sized balls.
-
Set: Arrange the balls on a plate lined with baking paper. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up completely.
Storage Tip
Keep these snacks in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week, or freeze them for up to 3 months for a quick grab-and-go energy boost!
