Recipe by @withlovefromthetwins
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup Dried hibiscus flowers
- 2 Cups Water
- 2 Laager Mint flavoured Chamomile & Rooibos teabags
- ¼ Cup Honey, adjust taste
- 1/4 Cup Fresh orange juice
- 1 Cup sparkling lemonade/ soda water
- Ice cubes
- Fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)
- Orange and lime slices for garnish (optional)
Method:
- In a medium-sized pot, bring water and teabags to a boil. Once boiling, remove the pot from the heat and add the dried hibiscus flowers.
- Cover the pot and let the flowers and tea steep for 15–20 minutes. This allows the flowers and rooibos to release their vibrant colour and tart flavour.
- Strain and Sweeten: After steeping, strain the liquid into a large pitcher to remove the flowers and beanbags. Stir in the honey while the tea is still warm to ensure it dissolves completely. Adjust the sweetness according to your taste.
- Add Citrus Flavours: Once the sweetened tea has cooled slightly, add the fresh orange juice. This adds a delightful citrusy twist to the tartness of the hibiscus.
- Chill and Serve: Let the tea cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours to chill. When ready to serve, fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the chilled hibiscus tea over the ice. Top with soda water or sparkling lemonade.
- Garnish and Enjoy: Garnish each glass with fresh mint leaves, and slices of orange and lime for an extra burst of flavour and colour. Serve immediately and enjoy.
